Reaching The Light?

Dear Tom, our helper on the path leading to the Light. My little self needs your opinion on something. In order to reach the Light, is it highly advised to move out from our current enviroment or is it still quite possible to reach it while living in a society?

My current understanding is that reaching the Light consciously usually takes years, if not lifetimes, because cleansing of the mind and reprogramming it is a long procedure. If one is not bound to worldly life, then I guess staying in the same enviroment is not an obstacle to evolution. But in most cases, we are attached to the worldly life. So, do you think it is possible?

Nearly all my journeys to The Light happened when I was living in a big city (Melbourne, Australia)

One day I decided that enough was enough. Enough gossip, beliefs, gurus, religions, mistranslations and propaganda. I decided that I want to explore for myself what was really going on in the Universe. I wanted to know. First hand. Not through any proxy. I wanted to experience enough to be able to say that I KNOW what I am talking about.

My family at that time were not quite supportive to my efforts, so I had to meditate when everyone was asleep, around 3 am. It turned out to be quite a good time, because nearly everyone else in the city was asleep too. Instead of traffic I could actually hear nocturnal wildlife.

My first journey all the way to The Light happened after several months of meditation and concentration on the sound, @3 hours each day (after @6 months). I was quite determined not only to meditate as deep as I possibly could, but also to develop and improve my Reasons and motives for wanting to go as far as I could in the Universe.

Only after several invitations to The Light, when I was absolutely sure that my path leads me to where I wanted to be and brings me the understanding that I wanted to achieve, I moved away from my family to live alone, in an appartment just around the corner so that I could visit them several times a week. It took me another 4 years to complete my investigations to the point that I could find a way to explain what I learned in The Freedom of Choice book. It took me another 2 years to decide to leave my academic job and live alone in the remote mountains at Mt Best.

As you can see it was a process, that is far from finished. This process is different for every individual. It depends on your initial situation, your committment, priorities, motives, abilities and self-discipline (the hardest bit). In brief, you need to find your OWN way and your OWN reasons/motives to go the Light. Curiosity is not enough. Among other things you also need to know what will you do NEXT, once you know what you want to know.

At present I focus on living in my physical body, simply because I found that it was my own choice to live this life. When meditating, I do not even aim to go to The Light. Since I have chosen to live a life in a physical body for a reason - I do not want to contradict myself by aiming to be somewhere else. Also I do not want to disturb this wonderful place with my primitive questions and problems that I really have to solve myself.

However, at the time of extreme difficulties, when I become discouraged by overwhelming problems, accidents, when I develop serious doubts about my conclusions and consider abandoning what I do - The Light reminds itself... It appears at some distance, but it clearly reminds me where I was and what I experienced - just for a second or two, enough to restore my motivation to face whatever problems may appear in front of me.

Needless to say, after several reminders like this, I gradually grew ready to face anything at all with calm and peace while doing my best - even if it is planetary anihilation.
