Astrology? Numerology?

Please, what are your thoughts about astrology?

Belle

Believing in "astrology", "numerology" etc... is more dangerous that exploding an atomic bomb in your hands.

Tom

Excellent answer ! [A.J.]

Why please?

Belle

"Astrology" and "numerology" have absolutely nothing to do with the Reality of the Universe and principles of its Design. By "believing" in "astrology" and "numerology" you mis-program your intellect with pure clutter.

That is so true. It's like blaming other things and 'fate' for your own problems. 'I can't help I'm so stubborn, I'm a "Taurus..."' [Andreas]

When I turned 40, I went on my spiritual quest.I read everything that remotely interested me concerning the existance of human beings. One of the books that I read was The Tarot Of The Bohemians'.

I've never been into tarot cards, but this was written by a man with the last name of Papus and he was affiliated with The Golden Dawn, Kabalists, and I was very interested in them. At this time, I was doing my yoga, breathing exercise and meditation.

One night I decided to match up a pack of playing cards with the tarot cards explained in the book. This book is supposed to be THE oldest most authentic "tarot bible" around.

I began to go through the book and I began to feel irritable for no reason. I ignored it for awhile, and then I realized that something wasn't right.

Dr. Chalko, I've mentioned before that I don't overstate things. I'm only telling the truth. I began to notice that it felt like someone was banging on the outside of my aura with their fists. At this time in my life with all of my spiritual adventures going on, I wasn't as shocked as someone else would be, so I ignored it at first. It became more intense, so I stopped with the cards for a while and stewed about what was happening.

I went back and stifarted again and the banging began again. My stopping and starting with the cards went on for about five or six times. I kept doing it to see if the banging would stop and start and it did.

I finally threw my hands in the air and said very loudly, 'I give up'. 'I was just curious about the cards and the tarot'. I guessed that it wasn't something that someone wanted me to be doing. I put the cards away and pouted a bit. It was quite an experience.

I always thought that, like you've said, that motive is very important. I've always managed to think for myself concerning anything that I might look into. I didn't see anything wrong with figuring out those cards as long as I didn't take it seriously. Well, now I think that there are some things that just aren't OK with our creator. It says something in the Bible about staying away from things like that doesn't it.

Keeping the mind uncluttered, I can understand, but just investigating something shouldn't be so very taboo should it? I don't care about the cards, but I just don't understand the reaction that I got from whomever.

In the spiritual world, is it a logical place like here with spiritual people communicating with one another? Who was that spirit? that was keeping me from doing that, because there was definitly someone there. That was not a gentle spritual thought from God, it was a kick in the head from someone. Wow.

If your child, or someone you care about, started doing something extremely dangerous, more dangerous that exploding an atomic bomb, wouldn't you communicate your warning if you had an opportunity?

Tom

Maybe popular culture has made some of us overly skeptical. Most genuine astrologers will agree that horoscope columns in magazines and newspapers etc are junk, since they can not consider any influence in one's horoscope bar the sun.

We should consider astrology as much more than this. It is the study of the influence of ALL the planets and bodies in the solar system, and how they HELP us develop up the evolutionary path. (I say 'bodies', because recently astrologers have noticed and recorded substantial impacts by asteroids and the like (one that comes to mind is Chiron.) Incidentally, it's been noticed by some mystics that the lower in the scale of evolution a being is placed, the more potent are the effects of the planetary influences; the higher, the wiser and the more individualized a being is, the more it is able to shape its own course and the less it will be actuated by the stellar vibrations.

Pretending that science has no spiritual implications will lead us where we probably don't want to go. Accepting astronomical observations arrogantly and with no inclination to believe or see the evolutionary guidance that the divine provides for us legitimately through the auspices of the planets is, of course, not a problem. But the assistance that all of us can gain from developing even a basic understanding of the positions of the planets in relation to one another and to one's place of birth at the time of birth in understanding THE SELF is truly remarkable, and not to be scoffed at.

If we'd like to place planetary influences in a religious context for a moment, a look at the 'seven planetary genii'; present in all religions might shed some light. The Hindu learns of Seven Rishi, the Parsi of Seven Ameshaspentas, the Muslim of Seven Archangels and the Christian religion has its Seven Spirits Before The Throne. Some find it laughable that religion propounds seven planets, but a perusal and quick application of Bode's law is in fact very interesting particularly for those at the astronomical end of the spectrum.

In any case, astrology is a very old science (dare I call it that?) that many past civilizations have dabbled in or placed a whole lot of faith in. Only when one is ready should he proceed to something he thinks might be more dangerous than having a bomb blow up in his hands! But at the end of the day, my question/comment boils down to the this: you HAVE freedom to choose : would you prefer to shy from an area rendered off limits by danger signs and never know its potential, or would you prefer to give it a go, and at the very least come away with KNOWLEDGE of some form.

Ruthven

Exploring/experiencing dangers is one of the essential conditions for learning, just as ismaking mistakes and facing their consequences.

Even the Creator itself won't interfere with people's choices, simply because such an interference would sabotage the process of learning and evolution of (individual) consciousness. Hence - you are welcome to try whatever you choose. My choice is to warn people of the danger associated with mis-interpretation of the Reality of the Universe.

You mentioned "civilizations" that cultivated astrology. What have they achieved? Haven't they disintegrated to oblivion?

Seven "planets": have you heard of "Seven Thaori", highly intelligent individuals who seem to try to inspire humanity on Earth for millions of years? Don't you think that intelligent teachers can HELP us better than spinning lumps of atoms that you call "bodies"? Designer of the Universe is not an idiot...

Astrologers of the past have collected a lot of useful data, which later Galileo and others utilized partially in their research. Astrologers understood that stars and planets were the signs of certain very important events such as the season cycle. The season cycle, in turn, determines a lot of life and death activities such as the right time to plant and harvest crops, hormone activity change, regulation of bacteria populations.

Then astrologers started thinking that the stars and planets were not just signs that accompanied life events, rather they were the very reasons for these events. For example, having noticed that Orion is high in the sky all winter, they've found it convenient -- very likely to boost their prestige and influence over the gullible illiterate masses -- to conclude that Orion actually CAUSES winter, AND extrapolate conclusions of such nature to the incredible variety of activities that have absolutely NO relationship to celestial events. Astrologers jumped to illogic and, as it is said, the rest is history.

Nowadays astrologers try to hide their ignorance by employing 'sophisticated' computer programs to precisely 'predict' events, but these programs are still based on the same old fallacies.

I have an acquaintance that is 'proud' of her 'knowledge' and striving to 'deepen' it.

Vesselin

Have you noticed what is the MOTIVE of people to "study" and use astrology? Isn't it extracting money from illiterate, while maintaining their ignorance and controlling their behavior ?

Can you establish how these activities relate to The Purpose of the Universe?
