Hi Tom,I have been re-reading The Book and have become quite worried about the effect of noise pollution on the astral body.
I assume that constant noise pollution is the real danger but what about a motorbike going past my house, how long would it take the astral body able to recover from this?
A.J.
We do not have enough knowledge on Earth to measure the damage caused to astral body and verify methods for its "repair".
My understanding, which is limited, is that an acoustic noise that is either too loud and/or prolonged reduces the capacity of the astral body to store information.
It is quite debatable what is "too loud". My current view is that we should avoid noise that is more intense than a "sound of the forest" on a nice day.
The real problem is that we do not really know what is the exact mechanism of storing the information in our consciousness/astral body. My hypothesis is that the information storage is accomplished in a form of the interference pattern that forms each electron, much like on a hologram.
From this point of view, the best "remedy" might be to let Nature (Higher Self) carry on repairs. MEDITATION in silence works best for me.
Tom
I have found on the Internet a program that simulates wind chimes. The sounds it produces have a very soothing effect on me. Would listening to something like this also be beneficial to the astral body?
A.J.
I do not know. I like listening to soft music when I work, but for "repairs" - meditation in silence feels best.
Tom
A disco is without doubt very dangerous. I wish it could be proven by an easy example, so young people become aware of it and don't expose themselves to extremely loud music every weekend. When I tell them about the danger they don't believe me at all. Any suggestions?
Andreas
How about asking them to do an IQ test? When you have the initial result, how about asking them to repeat the test after or during a disco? When sufficiently many people are tested we could draw a real conclusion.
Tom
What if a person continously exposed with loud sound. Two years ago, I visited the nuclear reactor and had a glimpse of the generator inside. To my surprise, the generator was continously producing loud sound comparable to the level of sound in Disco. We were obliged to wear special ear protection equipment. There were technicians continously monitoring and maintaining the equipment. I believe their astral bodies are severely damaged after years of exposure of loud sound. I wonder what the higher-self will do as it is not really their 'choices' to work there as most our choices today have to base on financial security and survival in the material world and finacial responsiblity for the members of family.
bomoh
Our conscious choices are determined by our intellect. Do you remember the story of a dog?
The more we know, the wiser choices we make. Life is a TEST whether we understand - or just dream that we do.
People will experience consequences of their choices (currently based on "financial security" rather than creating optimal conditions for development of intellect), regardless whether they are aware of them or not.
If people knew about dangers of noise, they would take steps to reduce it in the first place, when designing machinery.
Tom
Loud musics as in disco will certainly harm the astral body according to The Book. Will the damage manifest in the physical body within the person life-time? If not,how do we expect young people to understand the adverse effect? What is the best reason to discourage young people from going to disco?
bom
The damage should be obvious in the domain of consciousness. Reduced sensitivity, perception, concentration span, intellectual abilities, increased irritability, tendency to depressive states etc.
Is it possible to pay attention to the above?
Tom
I dont think they would ever brother of damage they would have done in the domain of consciousness. They said Disco is fun. Certainly for them having such fun overweights such damage.
bom
What we CHOOSE as a "fun activity", like any choice, is determined and limited by our intellect. Do you remember the story of a dog?
The problem is that everyone (like the dog) is quite happy about making certain choices, otherwise they wouldn't make them. They simply cannot comprehend The Fun of alternatives such as development of intellect.
We should also note, that it is typically VERY difficult for a person to perceive his/her OWN degradation of consciousness, even if it is significant. It only becomes obvious in certain tests and observations, usually done by OTHER people who are sensitive and observant enough. Even a severe change in consciousness (such as memory loss in elderly people or a damage caused by prolonged use of hallucinogens) is difficult to observe by people themselves. You may even say that the more severe damage to consciousness - the less aware the person becomes about it.
This explains why some people CONTINUE to make choices that cause their own destruction and explains why they are actually quite happy about making such choices.
Is it a part of a magnificent self-correction mechanism of the Universe? Is it LOGICAL that Individual Intellects who choose to degrade their intellect, sensitivity and perception (a choice that clashes with The Purpose of the Universe) should eventually cease to exist?
Isn't it a MAGNIFICENT principle that such a "correction in the Universe" occurs as a result of The Freedom of Choice?
What do we say to people who INSIST on making certain choices? Shouldn't we let the Universe correct itself? "Resist NOT evil" is not just a strange ancient "advice". It expresses the fundamental DESIGN principle of the Universe... Evil is designed to eventually eliminate itself...
Returning to music. Is it a coincidence that the most of our music becomes more primitive but louder instead? Why so many people choose a primitive music? What kind of sign is it?
Tom
So maybe it´s no coincidence that most of my friends who are very interested in spiritual growth enjoy calm and soft music while the few friends I have who aren´t interested in the above like their music loud and intense...
..when one thinks about it, it makes sense. [Mr. Sweden]
I would like to propose an experiment. By recoding people brainwave using EEG before and after disco, we might find a interesting features..eg..noises in their brainwave spectrum, degree of brainwave coherent?
bom
The problem is that no one has ever been able to measure the intellectual capacity using EEG.
Tom
Hi Tom, I went to a concert last night, against my better judgement I might add, I had paid for tickets thought and the band were breaking up ect.... anyway whilst I knew this was causing me harm the noise was painful. I used the oppotunity to do a little reasearch. Before going In I did a couple of long multiplication sums and long division sums, with my normal degree of success/failure around 17 out of the twenty were right. Anyway When I got out I did those same sums to find that I could only do 4 out of the 20, I could barely finish them and found that even the next morning my ability to do very very simple things such as 2 plus 3 was limited, Its not that I didn't know the awnswer but I began to doubt that that even made logical sense. My abilities have returned but I cannot not be sure of the permanent damage, the point is the proof that music does damarge the interlecct (intentional spelling mistake joke) . I don't feel proud of my guinie pig experiment but I thought this info could persuade others not to dabble in loud noise, the repercusions could be terrible.
I also felt terrible for the band I was reminded of something tom said about the design of the universe and how eventually those who choose to ignore lessons will eventually extinguish themselves, I could'nt help thinking that intentional or not this was their fate! [Robin]
Does the damage to the astral body from noisecome through our ears?....Would wearing ear plugsat a disco or concert lessen the problem? I would guess that the damage would still occur.
Chuck F
Supose that you take an anaesthetic and put your hand into a fire. The fire wouldn't hurt you, but the fact that you don't feel anything wouldn't stop the damage. On the contrary - without feedback you can cause damge that is more serious.
Falsifying and muffling our sensations has serious consequences.
Ears are important sensors designed to provide us with feedback and information, so we can make reasonable choices. If you block them - it is like taking an anaesthetic - you don't hear the danger and you choose to expose yourself to more of it.
Tom
Isn't it true, though, then, that choosing to ignore lessons means continually, as in extremist self-importance / arrogance like 'I know what I'm doing.' This applies to much more than drugs alcohol and noise, does it not?
Maybe the attitude is the main aspect that destroys the self, and drugs or noise are merely catalysts.
j5
The primary reason for such "catalyst" to exist is The Freedom of Choice. Everything, good and bad has to exist, around you and within you, otherwise you wouldn't have the Freedom of Choice. Do you remember the chapter "The Ego"?
The second reason is that all negative things such as drugs are needed for the self-correcting mechanism of the Universe to function properly. Please see Why drugs exist topic on this forum.
Tom
I have read it and occasionally refer to it, yes.
The fault can therefore only exist in the Self, not in Nature.
Avi
I got shivers reading this sentence. It is one of the best statements I have ever seen. May I please use it in my writings and quote your name?
Tom
Tom: would you say that playing a drum set is harmfull?
S.S.
I do not know enough to answer this. We need to get insight into the nature of the information encoding in our consciousness (astral body). At present no one on Earth is competent enough in this area.
Tom
So what happens if someone scream in your ears? you will be damaged because of him?
Antonio
Does this person use a 500 watt amplifier? If not, the physical danger is quite limited. Your psyche may suffer, though.
Tom
Your demonstration for the negative influence of noise is the (perhaps temporary) diminished capacity that occurs after subjecting oneself to the kind of loud noise such as occurs at a concert. Could this not also be due to a temporary lag from stimulation? The same subjective effect can be felt from hours of intensive study. This is no different from the body becoming 'tired' after exercise. What is your evidence for noise causing a permanent reduction in capacity, rather than a sort of 'exercise' of the senses?
David Jacobs
The suicide rate is highest among teenagers who listen to "heavy metal" music. The "leading" country is Japan.
Tom
The comment I made on drugs/noise overexposure I actually got was inspired by your phrase, in the aura lecture notes, 'there is nothing paranormal except our limited understanding of nature.'
- I love this phrase.
