Ok, I understand how lonliness is an important lesson, but why is it that we (I) feel more alone than any younger generation has before? What is so special about this generation? It would seem that similar situations to the one on Earth have arisen countless times on the hundreds or thousands or however many inhabited planets there are. Why is this time so different?

No generation on Earth has been mislead and misinformed to the extent the current generation is.
Never in the history of Earth a narrow minded "leadership" had so many tools to systematically brainwash, misguide and control behavior of so many people to their own advantage.
Never in the history of Earth any "society" was mislead to disregard Nature to such an extent, on SUCH a scale and for SO long that the very existance of the entire planet became at risk - with NO SECOND CHANCE if the warning is ignored.
"Events" that will wake some people up are still to come. Massive volcanic eruptions, massive tidal waves, extremely violent weather, warming of oceans, melting of polar ice caps, just to mention a few examples... For more detailed description of forthcoming disasters (and their mechanisms too) please study The Book and this article.
Whoever will begin to "wake up" as a result of self-examination will need to avoid traps of "virtual reality" and destructive "technology", not to mention piles of "knowledge" and overwhelming propaganda of deceit - all of which are made SO attractive that they dominate people's minds on Earth today. This is also a challenge that never existed on Earth...

The loneliness of our generation is partly a result of those who are supposed to be our role models, leaders, teachers and parents. Most of them do not understand what they are doing.
Because of this, i think our generation is coming to realize that we are almost on our own, and that there are very very few of us who we can truly depend on. With that comes feelings of loneliness. I guess it is a way to learn about autonomy, and the importance of depending on and using our Higher Self, because it will never abandon you.
